Tax File Number (TFN), ATO, tax brackets, superannuation, NL-AU treaty
Summary
The Australian tax system is managed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). As a tax resident, you pay income tax on your worldwide income. You need a Tax File Number (TFN) — without a TFN, the highest tax rate (45%) is withheld. The tax year runs from July 1 to June 30. Australia and the Netherlands have a tax treaty that prevents double taxation.
